Alexis Martinez, a friend, a brother, a son, an uncle, a leader, a Police Officer but what we all didn’t know is that Alexis was an Angel bestowed upon us. . Alexis’s selfless act will always be a primal example of his character. Alex’s relentless persistence for his family, his peers and his colleagues moved mountains and stopped wars.

Alexis Martinez was a class act, not only for his peers and family, but for his community. Alex humbly kept quiet about the constant work he did at our High School, St Raymond’s High School for Boys.  Alexis wanted to form a relationship with his mentees. He wanted to teach them what nobody taught him <How to write a resume, what is a credit score, how to make time work for you…) His scholarship was an excuse to become a big brother. Alexis, my brother, we will continue to build your dream as you did for others- for the generations to come, in and out the Baseball diamond.

My God brothers. You have united the world my brother. Humanity took advantage of you- and you- graciously reminded us how to act, how to behave and how to dream.

We graduated High School together. We graduated College together. We moved out together and shared each other's passwords as roommates for over two years. We took the NYPD exam and became NYPD cadets together.  We studied together to become Sergeants and we were supposed to pass more exams together. It breaks my heart how with just a quarter of your life- your hard work will pay on in heaven, we weren’t done with you here.

Though your shadow now walks with us, I know God will give us the strength today and the next days to come because he owes us one. I didn’t think we’d only make a decade of friendship. My God brother, you struck our hearts deep and united the family, which is what you always wanted.

Today, we unite for your dreams, for your passions and to continue someone else’s. You gave me the nickname “Motivation,” in high school after I got struck in the eye and couldn’t see for weeks, when in the contrary, you were and will always be the motivation for us.

Many didn’t know how much you loved a good time. You were a professional salsa dancer. You loved classic shows, you enjoyed unity. That’s what I wanted to bring to you today with your close friends and family.

“In life, what you do, echoes in eternity,” you as our gladiator, will echo in our hearts forever. Thank you for uniting us.
Founder, William De La Cruz
